"No-Oil” Industrial Air Compressor
Corac has used its innovative air bearing technology to develop an industrial air compressor which needs no oil to lubricate its bearings. This concept will find application in many markets including food, beverages, semi-conductors and pharmaceuticals where contamination by oil is not acceptable. We have two contracts for this technology and have received repeat orders.
Corac has also successfully coupled its 50kW high speed spool to a water injected screw compressor to produce a compact and highly efficient 2 stage machine targeted at the 120-300kW product range. This hybrid patented technology provides a simple and fully variable “No-Oil” compressor in a package occupying around 30% of the floor space of an equivalent dry screw machine and is offering an 18% efficiency improvement.
In a similar way, we are supercharging ("turbocharging") reciprocating compressors for the plastic bottle blowing industry. One of our systems has been succesfully trialed in a major soft drinks manufacturer's bottling plant.
We are also investigating the application of Corac’s “No-Oil” industrial compressor technology in the refrigeration market. Our ability to utilise the refrigerant gas as the lubricant for the bearings would provide an advantage over competing machines. Corac is seeking potential collaborative partners for this market sector.
