Background
The oil and gas industry has long recognised that wellbore pressure boosting can lead to major economic gains in beyond that possible using conventional central gas compression alone. Corac Group plc has pre-production machines for this potentially game changing technology. Corac Group plc's Downhole Gas Compressor (DGC) is a unique powered artificial lift technology.
After feasibility studies, an industry funded Joint Industry Programme (JIP) has been established since 2004, supported by Eni, Repsol-YPF and ConocoPhillips. The JIP has taken the project through detailed design and engineering and is currently testing in a flow loop with field trials of a commercial demonstrator targeted for Q4 2009. Close collaboration with JIP partners will ensure early market adoption.
This direct participation of major gas operators in the funding and technical direction of the DGC has been crucial to the successful completion of the development.
